A final acknowledgment with respect to New York-Bermuda steamship service must go to my late parents. On the morning of Saturday, March 2, 1935, they were joined in matrimony in Brooklyn. So perfect, in fact, was the pilothouse design that Circle Line developed for its first LCI(L) conversion that it would be repeated eleven more times in following years on converted LCI(L)s as well as on other kinds of vessels. It became a genuine trademark for both the company and for New York Harbor itself not in the same league, obviously, as the Statue of Liberty and the Brooklyn Bridge, but distinctive and jaunty nonetheless. Of course, while the pilothouse Circle Line designed for its converted landing craft was new and different on the outside, on the inside it contained much of the standard equipment from LCI(L) days, including those streetcar-like control handles for steering the boat.
